Ontario Jiu-Jitsu Association Statement on COVID19 – May 15th Update
We hope this update finds our members safe and healthy.
This week, the Government of Ontario extended the State of Emergency until at least June 2nd, 2020.
Additionally, the Government announced Phase 1 of the reopening of the provincial economy. Unfortunately, Jiu-Jitsu clubs are NOT included in this phase of the reopening.
For the list of businesses eligible to reopen, please see the following link:
As such, the activities of the Ontario Jiu-Jitsu Association (tournaments, shows) remain on hold until such time as the State of Emergency is lifted and Public Health has determined that it is safe for us to resume activities.
The OJA will release updated event schedules when then they become available. Watch our webpage and the OJA Facebook group for the latest updates.
We continue encourage our members to keep in contact with their clubs/academies/dojos – several are offering online lessons for their members – our activities will be incredibly important for the health and mental wellbeing of our members when we return to the new normal – please support your club/academy/dojo.
Our Board of Directors continues to work with all of our stakeholders to keep current on the latest information and the latest plans of the Government. We also continue to keep the Ministry informed on the impact this is having on our Association and membership.
Surveys were sent to our club owners, tournament hosts and officials last week – please take the time to complete the anonymous survey – this information will be collected and passed onto the Ministry to detail the economic impact the closure has had on our membership.
We understand the times and messaging can be confusing – we continue to be available to our member clubs/academies/dojos for any questions/concerns they may have.
We continue to encourage all of our membership to stay current with both the Government of Canada and the Ontario Public Health webpages regarding Covid-19. This information is updated regularly and with the latest recommendations of our experts in Public Health. Additionally, we include the webpage for the World Health Organization information on Covid19
